You are never responsible for the actions, words, or deeds of another, but you are responsible for your reaction to them. Then it is essential for you to understand that the other person would not be in your experience and you would not observe their behavior unless it was something you wanted to discover about yourself, and even that this is something for which you asked.
When the experience is uniquely emotionally painful, it means that it is something vital for you. It is pointing out some limiting belief you have held about yourself and some thought of deficiency. When it takes a long time for you to discover this, it is because you have been attempting to hide it. The one for you now is that you have continually placed a disproportionate amount of attention on others and not yourself.
