Every relationship into which you enter is for the express purpose of causing you to come to know who you are, and evolve. This theory, if you choose to think of it in that manner, includes your parents, families, and friends. You will typically come to realize this with those closest to you. It is inevitable as you move through your life, you will uncover your limiting thoughts, behaviors, and actions, through your interactions in your relationships.
Those discoveries are emotionally upsetting for you, but once you accept the awareness, and do something to change your old behaviors, you will have found the benefit of that relationship. At that point, what matters more is what you choose to do.
What you all come to recognize, and what your relationships point out, is your unwillingness to love yourself. You can all change this.
